Asa licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Nevada,
I have enjoyed working for several agencies across the Reno area since 2011, and as a private practitioner since 2013. I am also privileged to be a supervisor for Alcohol and Drug Counselor Interns for the last two years, and to serve as part-time faculty at Truckee Meadows Community College teaching substance use classes.
Prior to this (and often to the surprise of others) I served for several years as a minister of a small congregation in Leonardtown, MD, before taking a rather lengthy sabbatical to contemplate my career path. During this occupational vacation, I relocated to Winnemucca, NV and served as a juvenile detention officer (not so different from serving in a church as one might think). I also entered my graduate program at the University of Nevada, Reno and commuted to classes for more than a year before deciding to make Reno my home.
Since all work and no play makes for a rather dull boy, I also enjoy running, hiking, and, when my feet pitch a fit, curling up with an enjoyably challenging book or a good dose of Calvin and Hobbes. I recently ran a marathon in Tucson, AZ in December, where I ran alongside my 82 year old father.
As a clinical member of the AAMFT, I am incredibly proud of our profession, both historically and presently, and I look forward to what we in Nevada may accomplish together, particularly with the changes and challenges facing all mental health professions in the coming days.
